More about Makwanpur

Makwanpur is one of the seventy-five districts in Nepal, located southwest of Kathmandu.  It is situated between districts of Chitwan on the west, Dhading and Kathmandu on the north, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Kabhre and Sindhuli on the east and Parsa, Bara and Rautahat on the south.  It is 2,426 km2 in size and has a population of approximately 700,000.  Hetauda is the headquarter of Makwanpur district. It consists of hilly areas with the highest point being Daman at 2,488 meters.

Located on the East-West Highway, close to Kathmandu valley as well as the border town of Birgunj, Makwanpur district is home to Nepalese of vast ethnic, religious and economic diversity.  It is rich in natural resources, most of which remain untouched. From the mountain view tower of Daman to the historical Makwanpur Gadhi; from the rhododendrons of Simbhanjyang to the Bhutandevi temple of Hetauda; this district  provides something for everyone.

Although Hetauda is a fairly modern town, neighboring villages are poor and hasn't experienced much development and are still considered some of the most remote villages in the country.
